Kinja'd!!!

California governor signed law where Californians will be chastised for showering and washing clothes on same day. Heavily relying on snitch and surveillance program.

In my opinion, it is not news that California and west in general has water shortage. Would it not make sense to put money and effort into desalination plants? Sure. What would happen if it rained for 7 years and California got inundated by fresh water... well... run a pipe to another state and pump your fresh water into some other state that needs it. Sell it. Make money. Offset the cost of the plant.

If you are in drought few years later, you can divert the water for own use.

Rather than utilize technology and placing money into infrastructure, they are hoping the snitching program will fix their drought problems.

Snitches get stitches. Also, I don’t care how much they snitch, people will want to drink and you can’t tell live stock or plants that they can’t get a drink today because joe shmoe showered.

Typical CA legislative mindset of ignoring the elephant in the room. Who would have though an arid climate doesn’t have the natural water resources to support a population of 50M+?

I’d be more sympathetic if so much of it didn’t go towards people insisting on having lawns and growing water-intensive crops in a region which has historically been water-poor.

Yep. Relying on snitching program is not a way to fix it. Just penalize people for using water in an intended manner.

I am all for outlawing lawns. Make lawns and golf courses illegal. I know trump won’t like the later bit, but we would be so much better off.

less fertilizer in the ground/water. Less weeding. Less mowing. Less wasting weekends on keeping fucking grass green...for what exactly? What does it do for us? No fruit. No vegetables. Not even flowers. Just semi green grass most of the time which most likely is brown and useless.

No, this is not true at all. There’s nothing in the California water law that says anything beyond a daily per-person water usage cap. Water utilities know how much water each household uses, and it’s not hard for a state government to determine how many people live in a household.

You’ve picked up this line of reasoning from conservative ratfuckery. I was able to decipher it with a quick Google search and some critical thinking. Watch and learn!

A local Sacramento tv station published a report where individuals questioned what sort of activities would fit under California’s new water cap.

http://sacramento.cbslocal.com/2018/05/31/california-water-limits/

Then The Blaze linked to this report and added a headline saying the state of California is limiting the number of showers and toilet flushes you can do.

https://www.theblaze.com/news/2018/06/01/california-becomes-first-state-to-pass-water-law-limiting-toilet-flushes-showers

That’s not what’s in the law, it’s a potential effect of the law, but it’s not in the law.

And then you get this nonsense where they think California will unleash spies to check on individual household water usage. But again, NONE OF THAT IS IN THE TEXT OF THE LAW.

https://www.theorganicprepper.com/now-its-against-the-law-in-california-to-shower-and-do-laundry-on-the-same-day/

By the way, this article QUOTES the text of the bill before making a bunch of assumptions and suppositions about what might happen under the new law.

And then that nonsense gets picked up by wingnut blog Zero Hedge.

https://www.zerohedge.com/news/2018-06-03/its-now-against-law-california-shower-and-do-laundry-same-day

I’m sure the misinformation will continue to spread throughout the conservative, fact-free corners of the internet, but just remember, all the extra crap IS. NOT. IN. THE. BILL.

Don’t buy the bullshit.

Thank you for clarifying this. I read about the bill the other day in which it talks about the state requiring water districts to set limits on water usage, which I agree with. But the water districts will have to work with their municipalities to curb the biggest offender of waste: green lawns in fucking deserts.

Fine... But you have a law which limits water use. Why not install desalination plants and use ocean water to provide water to population instead of passing laws that dictate how much you can and cannot use?

I was in Aruba not long ago. They have no natural water source. They have desalination plants. Water bill is around 300 dollars a month. Which is ridiculous, but it’s there and that’s their life.

Surely a desalination plant might help the situation.

It’s amazing and also unsurprising how often bullshit propaganda like this happens.

California passes an environmental law that restricts the use of a finite resource, but since California is an evil librul state and regulations are bad, freedom is good, the conservative ratfuck machine invents a bunch of nonsense about how that restriction will be implemented. Each site that makes new shit up only links to the one previous to it rather than the original source. But hey, there’s a link to a source, so it must be true!

As someone that actually lived in California and pays all the taxes, I find it funny when people outside of California bitch about the state. But I get irritated when people in the state bitch about how terrible it is, yet, they have no plans to move. Last I checked people are free to move out of the state. But what these people won’t admit is how nice this state is, even with out high taxes and libtard guvment overlords.

When the gas tax got raised I had to stifle laughs when people bitched about it. I really wanted to ask them how they would fix the roads without an increase in the gas tax.

There’s absolutely nothing sinister here. All that bad stuff is from the ratfuckers, not in the law, and not in the original, balanced local TV report.

The original local TV article says the per-person water limit will be 55 gallons in 2022 and 50 gallons in 2030.

It also quotes Felicia Marcus, Chair of the State Water Resources Control Board:

“I think the average new home is 35 gallons per person per day, so we are not talking emergency conservation here.”

And what about those people with older, less water-efficient homes? Take it away, Greg Bundesen with the Sacramento Suburban Water District!

“We offer toilet rebates, we offer complementary showerheads, we offer complementary faucets.”

Oh, and desalination is already a thing in California.

http://pacinst.org/publication/key-issues-in-seawater-desalination-proposed-facilities/

Reading is good!

As somebody in the state right now, I can tell you that’s not as bad as it sounds. We’ve had some serious droughts in the past few years and wildfires are a serious problem. Also, is 55 gallons even possible for the average person?

You can close your eyes, put your hands over your ears, and scream MURICA all you want, but it doesn’t change the reality of the situation.

Most of what you posted is completely fabricated (no surprise since you’re getting your news from a Russian propaganda site), so I’ll deal with the water issue

The current water issues are not just a drought problem. The Colorado River was over allocated almost a century ago. Climate change has only made matters worse. California already desalination plants, but people need to use less water if we’re to avert a major crisis in the future.

Using Aruba as an example of how the southwestern US and California can manage water is a joke. Aruba has a population of just over 100K. California alone is over 37 million.

It’s funny how the mere word “California” is a dogwhistle to the FOX/Breitbart set.

Being in the Seattle area, the mere mention of Seattle or Portland also triggers this demographic. Yet most of them don’t live here, nobody is telling them to move here, and most of them aren’t near here. They are free to live in perfect thriving prosperous flyover land.

Whether it’s ridiculous or not isn’t the point. The whole thing about a water usage spy squad is made up, the limit is well above the typical new construction home, and the water utilities either directly or through rebates incentivize efficient plumbing fixtures. All of which is in the original local TV article. Everything this post refers to is inaccurate.
